Pay in advance to book appointment for Passport - Facility will be introduced in Pune soon
To curb the menace of touts and high rate of absenteeism among those who have applied for passports online, applicants will now have to make advance payments online to book their appointments.
Once the online payment system in introduced in Pune, it will be compulsory for passport applicants to make payment online.
Payment can be made for fresh passports, renewals, alterations in passports, etc.
Under this facility, an applicant will be able to cancel or reschedule the appointment only twice in a year from the date of first appointment.
The new system aims to bring down absenteeism of applicants by around 20 per cent per day and prevent alleged block booking of appointments by passport agents.
Payments can be made online on www.passportindia.gov.in either credit or debit card (both Master and Visa) or through Internet Banking facility of State Bank of India.
